Technology behind FiberJoints
FiberJoints Patch Technology
FiberJoints' hole reinforcement technology consists of a patch-type insert comprised of three elements: an inner metal ring, a fiber ring, and a braided sleeve.
These components work together to effectively redistribute the concentrated force at the hole to the remaining composite laminate. The fiber ring, made from a sufficient length of fiber bundle, is wound around the sleeve, which is then folded to create the FiberJoints reinforcement patch.
About FiberJoints Technology
Patch Loading Conditions
In-Plane, Out of Plane, Bending
FiberJoints offers a selection of different reinforcing patches to accommodate various loading and laminate configurations. The Single patch is well-suited for in-plane loading dominance (N), providing strength improvement for transversal loadings (V) as well.
The Tandem patch, consisting of two fiber rings and sleeves spaced apart, is designed for transferring bending moments (M) and is ideal for thick monolith laminates or sandwich elements.
Tandem Patching
The benefits offered by the Tandem patch can also be achieved by stacking multiple Single patches, which may provide advantages during the fiber layup process.
Bolted Joint Strength Improvement
Mechanical testing has demonstrated that the FiberJoints reinforcement patch significantly improves both static and fatigue loading in bolted joints. In quasi-static tests, the carbon fiber/epoxy laminate with FiberJoints patches exhibited a clear enhancement in joint strength.
Accurate Patch Position or Hole-to-Hole Distance
Achieving accurate hole position or hole-to-hole distance in composite components can be challenging. When using FiberJoints patches, a small modification to the molding tool/surface is required. Position markers, such as small pins, are attached to the mold surfaces. These markers aid in accurately placing the patches during the molding process, facilitating easy assembly of components
